Week 73 "1 Thessalonians 2: 17 & 19-20"

Dear family and friends,

Conference was inspiring and left me with a hunkering impulse to improve. To be in better standing to effectively help others do the same. I enjoyed the many talks about progression and charity and the spirit that accompanied their words. 

Simplifying your path to discipleship by Pres. Utchdorf, and "ponderizing" by Elder Lawrence were some of my favorites. I love the simplicity of this gospel, and the eternal truths that shepard our lives; faith is dependent upon what we do know rather than what we do not. Simple testimony with sincerity and conviction is essential for obtaining spiritual power to teach, learn, understand or whatever task it is we undertake in doing. I loved the profound words "what lack I yet" and just as important what have I? I have received many spiritual promptings as to what I have and what is yet needed.

Elder Jowers is my brother, brother in Christ. We have many things we are working on together to better prepare us for marriage and life. We continue to work together more efficiently by the day and learn much from one another. I love him, and I value this time we have together, this will be a time worth remembering.

We were blessed with many baptisms this last week and the relationships I have developed with so many are eternal. I love the people of Armenia and ****. As I went on an exchange this past week to my past area (now 7 months ago, Hrazdan) I was brought to tears with how much I love those people I served with and how much they love, listen and respect me. 

 While I was there with a dear friend (Elder Potter) on an exchange, Hayk (my recent con.), Armen (the mini missionary that served with us in Hraz),  and I piled into a taxi and we went to the mountains of Tsakadzor to teach a lesson to Hovik (my recent convert). As we were driving up the hill, laughing, catching up and enjoying each others company, the atmosphere settled and we neared our destination. I heard a voice saying "Brian, this is what it's all about" I was overcome with peace and joy to the overpowering of my emotions. I love those people of Hrazdan and I feel that there is some more work to done there in the future for me. I felt similar to the sons of Mosiah as they were reunited with Ammon, my brothers in Christ.

As I was studying the chapters of Mosiah 14 I felt the power of the Atonement in a very personal way. I have been able to better understand the enabling power and the redeeming power lately and the differences. I also recognize that in every disadvantage exists an advantage. I know that every person in order to become converted must have personal experiences with the Atonement by praying, studying and being attentive to the spirit.

 I pray everyday to take advantage of every opportunity, and to do it for the right reasons. As there are a plethora of distractions in life, I always strive to be motivated by the Atonement, as I do so I experience the blessings of spiritual gifts and the spirit itself that comes with it and the simple tranquility it brings. 

As we know there is always much more on our to do list than our done list, but I love the opening prayer given in the second Sunday session, "let us close the gap on what we feel and know and what we are and becoming and enjoy til the end", later announced in a talk, "we are not perfect, but we need to be good a getting better". Week 72 "This is the time"

Dear family and friends,

thank you for the letters and all of your love and support. The blessings and the opportunities continue to present themselves as we make the constant effort to continually improve. I truly love this work and the joy, trials and eternal magnitude it contains.

 President reminded some missionaries of the profound  joy of this service. "This is not a sacrifice, this time here further surpasses anything back home."  It truly is a privilege to be here serving in this capacity. I am humbled and blessed every time I reflect upon how great the opportunities, and capacities I have been blessed with and as I think of the missionaries we serve; the talents, capacities and attributes they possess. 

Elder Jowers and I are reaping the long awaited blessings of sowing. As we have been blessed this last week with several baptisms we are working closely with the bishop and ward to ensure the progression of the recent converts. We made our suggestions and gave our input as to what callings the recent converts would do well in, he will make the decision this week. 

We are working with many of our recent converts and they are teaching the lessons to investigators for their post 1-5 lesson review. It is truly  magnificent to see the conversion process in others and to see the ward members become ecstatic about missionary work, there is a tangible excitement among all involved in the missionary work.  It is such a marvelous blessing to see the transformation of this ward from 6 months ago and the unity and overall happiness, love and support. So much work to be done and so many recent converts/ future missionaries to be trained, what a blessing. With many more baptisms coming up this week it is a tender mercy, and testimony to me, to see everything coming together at once as the Lord blesses us from last transfer and the previous. 

What a blessing to be with Elder Jowers another transfer. I could stay with him for the rest of my mission. He was a great man at the begging of our time together and has become even better by hard work and giving himself to the Lord. We were talking last night and expressed our gratitude for one another and to the Heavenly Father for all the opportunities, blessings and changes we have experienced together. It is a significant moment in an individual's life when one can recognize "the glory days" as the present, Elder Jowers and I are doing just that!

All is well! I am learning much about my myself that will prepare me for marriage, raising a family, my future vocation, Christ like leadership and more. These things are priceless and I strive to do all I can to magnify all that the Lord has blessed me with. I am enjoying the success of hard work and the progression of those we teach. It definitely is not easy all the time, for whatever the acquisition there is always a price to be paid. I retain recollection of these verses when the creditor comes knocking. 

Luke 18:1 "And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;" 

Mosiah 7:33 But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage".

As I read about Abinadi and many other prominent missionaries who never saw the fruits of their labors. I am grateful that the Lord has allowed us to see many miracles unfolding. I am grateful for the convincing power, authority and love that I feel radiating from me as I better connect with the spirit; that physical light you can feel beaming from your eyes and face as the investigator listens intently. I am grateful for this experience for these people and the change they have brought in my life.

 "And this is my glory, that perhaps I may be an instrument in the hands of God to bring some soul to repentance; and this is my joy." (Alma 29:9) What an incredible experience this is, I wish words could suffice. "And surely there could not be a happier people among all the people who had been created by the hand of God." (4 Nephi 16) Love you all!

Week 71 "A week to remember"

It was a great week with many miracles! These people have become family to me, Armenian and Persian. I feel so encompassed about in their love and the love of the Lord. We were blessed with baptisms and with quite a few to come this Saturday and more coming down the shoot. It has been neat to see as soon as we put a concentrated effort on referrals, and other items in missionary work, The Lord pours out his blessings.

We went on a few member splits this week and many of the members are excited about missionary work. I was happy to give a talk about spreading the love of God in sacrament meeting. The blessings are flowing in every single way as we continually improve in every aspect. Many seeds are being planted and many children of God are experiencing the blessings of the restored gospel. We are preparing for mission leadership council this Friday as well as helping the Georgian Zone Leaders this Thursday on our exchanges. So much to do all the time and it's great! 

Many investigators have quit smoking or overcome difficult obstacles for baptisms and we will be happy to see them baptized Saturday. It is so neat to see the joy,happiness and change this gospel brings to all people. There is no greater work! It is a privilege to be able to spread this perfect message daily. We were blessed with so much work this week and many new investigators. It was a week to remember and the success is made evident from the Lord.

Our companionship is doing great we continue to push each other all the time out of love and respect. We see the good in each other and notice how this companionship will prepare us for the future especially for marriage. Elder Jowers is a great man and I love and respect him. We learn more and more from each other each day.

I am doing great just enjoying the blessings that come from this service and I try to make every day last. The days seem to blend together and fly by. I love the simplicity of the service and how we get to serve everyday with no other worries or cares. I took a minute the other day to ponder and write down the changes of last transfer that we were able to help inspire and I was overcome with gratitude and love for this work and the missionaries we serve. I love you all and I love reading your emails. I pray for you all daily and I hope you notice the blessings and an increased portion of the spirit. Love you all and miss you!

Dear Missionaries,

Welcome all new missionaries! What a great way to start of the first full week of the transfer. Every week we continue to see the innumerable blessings and opportunities that surround us. The Lord has a plan for each one of us in the specific areas and companionships in which we reside. It is our part to figure out why and let the service we render change us. 

2 Corinthians 8:10&12 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.

With all the changes, young trainers, leadership, new areas or whatever the situation may be. You may feel that you are alone or that there is nothing special or superior about you and your ability. We must maintain recollection that The Lord can work miracles with anyone who is humble, diligent and has a willing heart and mind.

Mosiah 4:21&24 "O then, how ye ought to impart of the substance that ye have one to another. I would that ye say in your hearts that: I give not because I have not, but if I had I would give."

Elders and Sisters, we all "have". Let us remove the artificial barriers that we unconsciously create in our minds. We all have capacity, strength and faith enough because we all have the right to the grace and enabling power of Jesus Christ.  Let that propel you, mold and shape you. Take confidence in who we represent! Wear it! We all play a significant role in this mission. Recognize what you do have and magnify it by sharing it.  

Mark 12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.

Omni 1:26 Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved.

Week 70

Hello all!
Transfer week! As most of you already know I am staying with Elder Jowers for another 3 months, it will be a total of 6 months with him and 9 months as an Assistant. Elder Jowers and I are both ecstatic to serve together again as leaders and we have a great vision and many high goals of what we want to make happen this transfer. It will be a great transfer and we are happy to have the opportunity to serve and lead together again.

Transfers were exhausting but at the same time spiritually recharging. It was incredible to see how amazing all 12 of the new missionaries are as we did interviews with all of them. There was a power and light within each of them and we are excited to see the talents, attributes and gifts they are bringing to these people. As we did a finding activity with the new missionaries, half of them came with me and we went to work on the street for a few hours. After 10 min it was inspiring to see them all talking to people, spreading the gospel and the joy it was bringing to them as well as listener. I think many of them were surprised that the language they had been learning for the last few months is actually real and people speak it. They will all be a great asset to the team and each has much to offer.

I am doing great! In every aspect, physically, mentally, spiritually I started T-25 a few days ago and I am on a controlled diet, have to gain some weight before I make it home. I continue to learn so much everyday and I try to soak it all in. And spiritually I have never been on a higher plane. I continue to experience the profound joy that comes when you feel the Lord is using you to do so his work and recognizing the change in yourself by the service rendered. 

I love these people so much! So many Armenians and Iranians have become my family and I would do anything for them. It is so amazing to see the change in them that the gospel brings, that is my joy and happiness. I love this work! I love every second of it, the hard times, the good times and everything in between. We try to make the most of everyday and we see the blessings. Almost a dozen investigators came to church yesterday and many more will be baptized this transfer.

I can not believe all the change back home it is neat to see and I am happy for all you getting married and starting families and many other great things. It is so hard to believe how fast time is going by. I try to soak up the moment and enjoy every day.  It was another great week with many great changes that we were able to help inspire in missionaries, leaders and investigators. Love you all!

TO THE MISSIONARIES:

Dear Missionaries,

At the conclusion of this transfer and the start of next just around the corner, many missionaries will be training. It is absolutely essential that we realize all that we have learned this transfer and show our gratitude by continuing to act and improve. This next group of missionaries will play a huge role in the future of Armenia and Georgia. Let us give them a fine reputation to live up to and show it by our example. 

Zone Training meetings....

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

We have all come to a better understanding of what it means to love God with all our heart, soul and mind. This is the foundation of what we want to address today. It goes back to the doctrine of repentance and submitting our will to God's. Preach my Gospel describes this as "forming a fresh view of God, ourselves and the world". In order to understand the second great commandment the first must be understood to a degree that changes us.

What we want to emphasize is the hidden commandment in this passage of scripture that we often overlook. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. The prerequisite and commandment the Lord gives us, is this, we must love ourselves before we can love others. For how can someone that doesn't love them self have the capacity to love others? 

We must take the time and devote our attention to receiving acceptance and love from the Lord. (Moroni 7:45-48) We must feel his love daily. As we embody that love for the Lord, ourselves and our neighbor we will have a greater desire and joy to love and serve. That perfect love was the motivating essence for the Savior during his Atonement. Let us establish that pattern of love for God ourselves and others. Then act by giving all the opportunity to partake of the bread of eternal life. We love you all!

"When you are filled with charity, you obey God’s commandments and do all you can to serve others and help them receive the restored gospel."

Week 68

Dear Everyone!!!

Every week so much good happens. There will always be highs and lows of missionary work but the joy and eternal purpose that we get to share with others everyday with out any other worries is something to be excited about. 

This last week Elder Jowers and prepared and conducted mission leadership council. It went very well and there have been some major changes because of those meetings with President and the leaders of the mission. The three main needs we addressed were studying; preparing to teach, helping missionaries understand their purpose and lastly the why of it all Matt. 22: 36-40. So many changes for the better, this mission is rising each week in all aspects. We are trying to close the gap of missionaries applying the things they already know, which comes from understanding true doctrine. 

"True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a  study of behavior will improve behavior.”

-Thank you Body K. Packer We are trying to figure out transfers and what the Lord wants.  We just want it to be the Lord's will, we continue to ponder and pray and work on them. 

There has been an excitement about missionary work lately mainly because we fasted as a ward together yesterday for missionary work. It was the best Sacrament meeting I have ever been to. Mainly because of the preparation on my part for partaking the sacrament. Sacrament has become so much more to me in these last few months than it has ever been. It becomes something I look forward to for spiritual rejuvenation and strength at the end of each week. I feel the promise of L. Tom Perry is becoming more clear as I seek to be prepared for Sacrament and make the most of the Sabbath.

We have been blessed with quite a few new investigators and many of which are looking serious. We are excited to work with some youth we recently found, they are already talking about missions, but they need to come to church first. Ha they are good guys. We are excited for some baptisms coming up soon, many of the investigators are ready to be baptized just a few are having a hard time quitting smoking. 

One of our long time investigators beyond prepared for baptism still smokes a half a cigarette a day. Yesterday I gave him some gum from America I got in a package and told him that It is special gum from America and that he will be able to quit if he chews 3 pieces a day. It was a last resort but so far it is working...So we will see. Many great people that we get to teach and learn from everyday. 

Elder Jowers and I are doing great! He is incredible and I am going to tell him that more often all the good that he does. I thought about what was said in a meeting recently about involving the savior more in our companionship. My mind went straight to Luke9:24 "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall find it". There is always so much you can do for your companion and others and so I plan on serving him more frequently and letting him know the good he does.

I am doing great! I am just enjoying life as a missionary. There are things in life just as good, but nothing greater than preaching the gospel. I was thinking about all the people in the scriptures that gave up their kingdoms and judgement seats to preach the gospel. Truly there is nothing greater or a more noble calling in life. Over the course of my mission I have been able to better understand the why of it all being Mathew 22: 36-40. Everything hinges on those to commandments and the better I understand this passage of scripture the more it motivates and drives me to become better and help others do the same! I love this opportunity to serve these people and missionaries as an assistant the things I am learning are incredible and will extend far beyond my mission.

Week 67

Dear family and friends,

This last week was full of revelation and ways to improve on all spectrums. As we hiked Mount. Aragats for Zone Conf. It was a great opportunity to talk to all the missionaries and take interest in them and their lives and missionary work. There is so much to learn from every single one of them. As cliche as this sounds I wish every one of them realized the greatness and potential they posses. Every single missionary has an innumerable amount of qualities and characteristics worth acquiring, I love them all so much and learn much from them every day.

The work in our area is good, however not quite where we want it to be. We have received revelation on how to overcome  the many outside influences that attempt to submerge those we teach, it has been neat to be able to prepare those we teach for the opposition they may face and to see them overcome it. 

We were blessed to baptize two very elect men last week and the spirit that filled every part of my body as I baptized them was spectacular. They were some of the most prepared people I have taught while on my mission and the spirit was with them in abundance.

We talk to everyone that comes within radius of our voice and as we do so we try to put a focus on families in our teaching and finding. We had a great lesson with that man from last week that we met while trying to fix his computer. He is looking promising we meet his family soon which will be exciting as well as many others preparing for baptism.

We have many great lessons during the week that propel me and bring me back to the reality of why I am here. Sometimes we get preoccupied with the how of many of our acquisitions and lose sight of the simple why. It all goes back to Christ.The more my knowledge of the gospel broadens, the more I realize everything in the gospel is an appendage of Jesus Christ and his Atonement. He suffered for all therefore understands all perfectly. I feel the spirit enter the room every time I testify of his reality, love and omnipresence.

 Someone asked me if I could change one thing in Armenia what would it be? I responded not limiting to Armenia but for all people of all races of all backgrounds and walks of life to understand the love of God and Jesus Christ. If all knew how much they were loved by these supernal beings I am convinced the world would be completely revolved. What better way to spread that love throughout the world than missionary work. 

There are things I have faith in and things I know and I know God and Jesus Christ love their children, I feel it every time I testify of them and this eternal truth. I will always miss the loved ones that have passed away especially ones that left this mortality unprepared and possibly unintentional. However this simple scripture gives me the solace needed 1 Nephi 11:17

I love this work! I truly do and the joy and change it brings to the teacher and the hearer. The love of work is success and I have been blessed to see much through out my mission as the Lord uses us as a tools in his hand. I love being a missionary and I love this eternal purpose! Week 66

He ran out of time so he copied us on the letter he wrote to his mission president... with a short paragraph at the end for friends/family:

Dear President,

This last week has been great but exhausting. We have been trying to get our area back together as we came back and things were not in the best of shape. We worked hard and saw many blessings. We have been able to go on member splits with many less active members and the youth of the ward, that has been a great experience and testimony to me.

 A young member and I were on splits one night and we were having a rough day, people were saying rude things and I was tired of it. Determined not to give up we got off a bus 2 stops above where we normally would, Hayk asked me if we should say a prayer because we hadn't found any investigators that day. Taken back and humbled by this question I agreed with tears in my eyes. Underneath the rain, Hayk offered the prayer there on the street and to my surprise as the word "amen" left his mouth a man came from behind us and asked me if I knew anything about computers. Knowing this was an answer to our prayer, without hesitation I replied "yes"! 

We went to a little house no more than 20 feet away. We entered and as soon as I found out he was trying to connect to the internet using a flash drive I knew I was in for a good show. Knowing this wasn't at all possible but that we were not teaching without trying to fix his computer, we didn't hesitate to sit down and hit some buttons while we taught the gospel. 

We taught him and others present about the church and where we meet on Sundays. After 20 min or so of a good gospel discussion I told him what needed to be done to fix the computer. I told him where we would be meeting the following day, he interrupted and said "I will be there" and how he wanted to learn about our church.  We left that man knowing that we had been there at the right time because Hayk was prompted to pray. Hayk was beaming with joy after this experience. As we walked down the street we meet another man that wanted to hear about the gospel. It was a good reminder of the power that humble prayer contains.

So many investigators being found weekly and so many saying they will keep commitments, that are continually not kept. We are trying to figure out what we need to do better to help those we find continue investigating. How do we rise above all the negative influence they receive from their friends and sometimes family or media. It almost seems impossible at times if the investigator doesn't have a member who is a close friend. This is a matter we have been pondering lately and we continually try to make changes for the better.

Elder Jowers and I are doing great! He is a great missionary and works hard. We push each other to do better and become better, that is the sign of a true friend in my book. We help each other improve in every aspect, missionary work and secular. This last week he was having a rough time on Wednesday, I felt I needed to ask him how he was doing and after a superficial "I  am good" I asked a second time "how are you really doing"? He expressed some things that satan has been hitting him with lately and turns out I was feeling the pressure from Satan as well in those same areas. Although we both feel like Satan is doing all he can to take us down however, everything seems to be fine now. Elder Jowers was feeling a lot better after our talk. Elder Jowers is an incredible man and this has been a great transfer and gets better daily.

On that note, I made the mistake of asking for a trial a few weeks ago to have the opportunity to rise to a higher level of conversion. Usually trials come as soon as you ask for them but I feel these came to us as a companionship as soon as we got back from Georgia. I feel the spirit has withdrawn from me and I like I have said before I feel like super man without his powers. We are trying to help struggling missionaries and stay on top of our area as well as keeping the mission unified and  of course the stuff back home that plagues my mind at times. 

We have made goals, personal and companionship to counter our personal trials and concerns in the mission.  When it rains it pours right? For these reasons and more it has been an exhausting week. We have never worked for something so hard in our lives or desired something as much as we desire the spiritual well being of these people. I pray for them to wake up and change their lives, to see the water of eternal life right in front of them and partake.  At the end of the day all we can do is continue to do try our best and see what we need to change. I still love every second of this service as a missionary and as an assistant. Thank you family and friends for all that you do for me, and thank you for your support and love! Week 65 Zone Conference in Georgia

We hiked a mountain at the base of Kazbeggi Mt. and had a great zone conf on the mountain!

Dear family and friends,

It was an incredible week, I feel that we were able to do a lot of good in Georgia for the 5 days we were there and help inspire a change and excitement among the missionaries there. 

Zone Conference was excellent I felt that I benefited from it immensely as well as everyone else who came prepared. As we ascended up the mountain we stopped and discussed the process of conversion given in 1 Nephi 11:1 Desire, believe, ponder and the spirit . Elder Jowers and I started off the Conference addressing Desire at the base of the mountain, it went well and was very spirit lead. 

I welcomed the change of heart that I experienced during this time in Georgia, It was a lot of little things I  needed to acquire within the Christlike attribute of charity. The best way you can tell if any meeting accomplished its' purpose is in the aftermath. How well are you facilitating what you learned in your life and those you serve based upon the things they learned in their lives, the gospel is all about repentance, change and becoming more and helping others to do likewise. More often than not the differences needed in our lives are slight however the consequences are enormous. 

I knew we had a big task ahead of us as we went on splits with the with all the Georgian Elders. It was fast paced and busy. Elder Jowers and I split up and went on splits with companion-ships, set goals and made plans to improve in every aspect of missionary work. We put a huge emphasis on finding and we feel that there was a complete change in missionaries, meanwhile President was doing specialized training with other missionaries to help them apply what we have learned. Between Elder Jowers, Pres and myself being in different places we feel that the things being taught by the three of us were in perfect unison in helping missionaries apply and become. It was a great learning experience and my Georgian was getting pretty good!

Elder Jowers and I are doing great, we had an amazing experience last Monday were I found out that my Pat. blessing talked about Elder Jowers and the role he has played in influencing my future and continues to play. It was an experience that I have been waiting for, for a long time. The spirit that filled the room was so unique as pure blessings and promises were fulfilled. We will always have a special connection with one another because of this, It was an incredible conformation that the Lord does fulfill his promises and that we were both in the right place!

We are doing great and teach in unity and continue to have fun. I love serving with him!

Week 64

Dear family and friends,

What an incredible last week. So much good change has taken place, I wish I could describe it all in full detail, better yet if you could be here to see it for yourselves. Although both of those scenarios would be great I know that you are all having your own experiences and having just as many opportunities for good wherever you may be.  

This last week I was taught and reminded of many life changing principles of Christlike leadership. If you haven't noticed by now, our mission is in on an incredible level of work right now and continues to soar to new heights each week. However our mission is very divided, there are those who "get it", and it shows in every aspect of their work and overall happiness. Then there are those who continue to struggle and aren't facilitating the things that they know or have known at one time. I feel that every leader comes to this bridge at some point or another in their time as a leader, in which the decision must be made, how to help other people use their agency and act. One of our biggest tasks that we are currently dealing with is to unite the mission and to help others act upon the things that they know, so we can be united as a mission all working for the goals we have all set out to accomplish. 

We have implemented a lot of change that we feel will be effective in helping missionaries become "agents unto them selves" in other wards leaders for themselves. That is the pattern for Christlike leadership. Christ first understands, sets the example, then helps those he serves become... I have noticed the third step is what separates good leaders from great leaders. Most leaders can set the example but tend to do it all for those they serve. That is the easier way and on a less dramatic level that is Satan's plan, do it all for them, no agency, no growth involved. Christ helps those he serves become leaders, "agents unto themselves", capable and independent and "doing many good things of their own free will". 

I went on an exchange with a struggling companionship this past week, it was a surprise exchange so we could see how they are doing work and planning on a daily basis. I went to their area and after the first day the missionary I was with asked what time are you going back tomorrow? I said I am not going back. He was rather surprised and asked how long I was staying and I let him know however long it takes for the work to improve and although I didn't say it directly however long it took him to change.By the end of the exchange only one thing had changed, the missionaries attitude which fundamentally affected everything else, which in result made everything else change. It was a great experience to be able to help him and it's a great reminder of what leadership is all about.

Elder Jowers and I are doing great, we were blessed with more baptisms this last week and more to come, many at church and many great, uplifting meetings. Elder Jowers and I work hard together and we have fun while doing it, it's a good combination. Sometimes I think that Elder Jowers and I are the same person as we finish each others sentences in lessons or express that same thoughts or concerns. I love all my companions and have learned much from each companionship, however if I had a favorite it would be Elder Jowers.

Everything is great! We are about to go to Georgia for zone conferences. It will be great and I know the Lord will take care of our area while we are gone. I know you hear these things every week, but I love this work and I love being able to help missionaries and these people. I love you all and pray for you daily. I hope that you are all happy and enjoy the spirit more frequently with you as you always try to progress, that is what life is all about in the words of Brigham Young "cultivating yourself is the most important duty one has in mortality". 

We are all on a spectrum of which we never stand still. We either improve or digress. "We right now we are the sum total of all that we have thought, seen, heard and done. Who are you?"  I love that quote by Lawrence E Corbridge. It has pushed me in my life to rely on the Lord, forget the line of mediocrity and complacency altogether and become so much more than I could have imagined, only through the Lord. "Lord grant that I may always desire more than I can accomplish". --Michelangelo 

I challenge each one of us to escape our comfort zones and diminish the fake boundaries that we unconsciously create in our minds. There is no limit, especially with God on your side. There is no comfort in a growth zone and no growth in a comfort zone, this principle is what we are trying to help missionaries apply and understand as a whole right now, "anxiously engaged in a good cause" If understood and applied will pay dividends that will extend far beyond the mission. Try new things, cultivate yourselves and become who the Lord wants you to become in every aspect. Look to him first in all things and be concerned most about what he thinks of you and everyone else's opinions will fall into place in a positive way. To be able to facilitate these things and see life on an eternal perspective is something we should all pray for daily and with real intent act then become. Love you all!

Week 63

Dear family and friends,

Shout out to my Dad! The best man I know! Happy birthday! YEAHH!!!!

This last week was great! With another baptism and a few more coming up soon we realize how blessed we are. Especially as we have been out of our area so much planning for Mission Leadership council, conferences and other training, we notice the Lord makes up the difference. We spent a lot of time this past week on our knees as a companionship as to what we needed to change and implement depending on the needs of the mission. We counselled about following the spirit and we narrowed it down to 3 needs of the mission. Teaching for conversion, finding the elect and paying the price or as the scriptures say "magnifying the office of our calling". I was privileged to conduct the meeting, and we all felt like because of the preparation put into it, on both sides that It was a great council and a lot of changes were implemented, the purpose and vision was clear as to what we needed to do and the spirit was present.

I continue to love these people much more even those who don't love us. A year ago this was something that would have seemed foreign to me. I am grateful for that change that the Lord has blessed me with. I talked a lot about desire in the weekly letter to the mission this week, and lately I have been thinking about how much Elder Jowers and I want to find elect people to teach! It is our biggest desire and we will do anything for it! 

Jacob 2:2 anxiously engaged, I feel like my companion and I are always out of our comfort zone to the point where being out of our comfort zone becomes comfortable. That is something my Mom taught me when I got a call from her during Advanced Individual training in the army. Harnessing the pressure or anxiety of a situation to motivate and drive you rather than the usual effect it has on an individual. Elder Jowers and I are doing great! We get a long very well and see eye to eye on just about everything! He is a great missionary and a great man, we work hard and have a fun time together, overall it is just a great time! There is a difference between a companion and a brother, and we were able to reach that brotherhood level pretty fast, I will always be grateful for that and this time together!

I am doing great! Obviously we have our disappointments, however the pros always outweigh the cons by far. I love being a missionary and I want so badly to find elect people who want the gospel. I come home every night knowing I gave my best, as I confide in the Lord and account to him I know what to do better the next day and then I do it. Like I said earlier, I have never wanted anything more in my life for such an eternal purpose than I do and feel right. I know that the Lord will answer our prays and we will be able to see the blessings of Alma 26:22 come to pass.

I love you all and I am grateful for you and your examples. You all play a part in this great work. I am grateful for my wonderful parents and the love and patience that they have showed me. I am grateful for my experiences, my past, and all that I have been through to be who I am right now. The Lord always has a plan for all of us, a plan of which is greater and more grand than we can imagine. I love you all and pray for you everyday. Thank you for all the emails and for you love and support!

(Letter to the missionaries)

Dear Missionaries,

This last week has been revelatory for us as a mission. Your zone leaders will talk about the items discussed during mission leadership council tomorrow, for that reason we will keep this letter relatively short.

  "For I know that he granteth unto men according to their desire, whether it be unto death or unto life". Alma 29:4 . "Desire is the starting point of all achievement" and God will always give us what we desire. It is our task in life to desire the right things.

Recently we have been discussing what paying the price as a mission entails for us with the goals we have set as a mission. Keep in mind as the Zone leaders discuss this tomorrow that It is so much more than reaching a goal of baptisms for the year. It is about spreading the love of God unto his children, the most desirable thing unto the children of men. It is about the "welfare of souls".

It goes back to our missionary purpose the core of it all and why we do what we do. We need to ask ourselves the same question that the Spirit asked Nephi in his vision of the tree of life "what desirest thou"?  What do we want, why, and how bad do we want it? Real intent- what are we willing to do after we receive revelation?

 Later in this same chapter an angel tells Nephi "what is most desirable above all things" 1 Nephi11:22 . He reminds us the core principle of what we teach everyday and what missionary work is founded upon, the Love of God for the welfare of souls. As your zone leaders prepare and teach tomorrow please think of what we are going to do as a mission to pay the price together, to desire what the Lord wants above all. Only then will we see the blessings of Alma 26:22
